Empty Promises

God, I take promises seriously, and I read in your word that you do too...

In my past relationships, (ex-friends and family) I've been given empty promises. I had moments where I would express how I felt, and I would either get a biased or unchangeable response ( In other words, someone saying that they are "sorry" but still continue to do the same thing over and over...; It is not an actual apology if nothing is changing. When a promise is made, it's like creating an emotional bond with someone; when that promise doesn't follow through, you will feel a certain way about it. Guess what? God does, too.

  • Ecclesiastes 5:4 (AMP)- "When you make a vow or pledge to God, do not put off paying it, for God takes no pleasure in fools [ who thoughtlessly mock Him]. Pay what you vow. (Vow= Promise)

When you make an empty promise to an individual, you are showing them that you do not care, that they are a joke (mockery) and that you don't value their time or efforts. Imagine how God feels. For example, if you promise God that you will give up your additions, let go of certain individuals, make more time, and do not follow through, then what is the point of making a promise? A promise is a declaration that a particular thing WILL happen.

I think empty promises hurt the most when you genuinely love someone. God loves every single individual on this earth, so to have so many people promise him things and break them is heartbreaking. If you know how it feels to receive an empty promise, why give that to someone else?

Don't make promises if you can not fulfill them...It's better that way.
