Know God’s Voice

I have been asking God constantly to lead and direct me, but I need to know his voice for him to lead me.

John 10:2-4 talks about how a sheep knows the gatekeeper's voice; therefore, when the gatekeeper calls out to the sheep, he knows to be led by him.

My question is, How do we(sheep) know God's (gatekeeper) voice?

1) Be still

Life can get a bit chaotic sometimes, and it can be hard to hear God's voice. The first line of Psalm 46:10 states, "Be still, and know that I am God." God wants your undivided attention. We can't give him some of our time and expect him to work full-time. Create a quiet space for yourself and God, and make this time with him special.

2) Have a relationship with God

If you want to hear God’s voice, having a solid relationship with God is one of the most important things to do. When Jesus said, “I know my sheep, and my sheep know me” ( John 10:14), he meant that his sheep had a connection with him; therefore, they knew his voice.

3) The Bible

If you study him and his word. You will know who he is and how he speaks to his children. Have you ever read or recalled a scripture that was so relatable to your current situation or what you’re going through? That’s another way you can hear God's voice (Always pray for discernment)

4) Other people

You can read throughout the scripture that God used multiple people to spread his message.  Apostle Paul is one of the people known to spread God's word. God used him as a mouthpiece. You can also hear God's voice through other people's messages and sermons.

5) The Holy Spirit

Have you heard someone say, “ I felt it in my spirit,” or, “Something in my spirit told me this”? Many people can hear God's voice through the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is known as the “helper.”

John 14:26 “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have said to you.” The Holy Spirit is here to help and remind you of God’s voice.

God is leading his sheep( you) in the right direction, and it is up to you to follow his voice.
