1 - Recognization
Recognize what is triggering (tempting) you. One thing the enemy likes to do is to aim for the mind. That is why Apostle Paul wrote about how we should think on a daily bases.
Philippians 4:8-"And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise."
Our Thoughts can be easily influenced by
Movies/ Shows
Music
Books
(and sometimes even) Physical touch
Tip: If you are a deep hopeless romantic,
I don't recommend any romance movies/ shows, or books. If you can not handle it, do not get involved with it!
2 - Pray
Talk to God about what tempts you and ask him for help. Prayer is a time to be open and vulnerable. God wants to hear about all of your problems. He cares about what you are going through and wants to free you from temptation. Also, take the time to acknowledge his power and believe that he can free you from whatever is tempting you.
Matthew 26:41- "Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
(Prayer can be done in many ways) Try adding some instrumental worship music in the background.
3 - Surrender to God
Give it to God. You have to let God into your life and your struggles.
(I created a separate (more in-depth) blog about this specific topic)
4 - Resist and Flee
This is where self-discipline comes in. One tip that has worked for me is to stay active, work out, and walk (Find a few hobbies). Whenever you face any temptation, please don't feel like you have to indulge in it. Always keep your mind in a place where it is not sinful. Having self-discipline and control is super important. One of the fruits of the spirits that believers should bear is "self-control." (Galatians 22-26)
5 - Read and study scripture!!
In your walk in Christ, reading God's word is crucial. You can use scriptures to fight against the temptations that are coming your way (Hebrews 4:12). The word of God is food for your spirit. You will be led by the spirit when you feed the spirit with God's word.
